  • This is the Veterans Handicap Chase Final. A 24 furlong, Class 2. The forecast going is good to soft/soft in places.
Pete The Feat is a 13 year old gelding, trained by Charlie Longsdon, ridden by Aidan Coleman.
Champion jockey Richard Johnson rode this horse in a course and distance handicap last season, finishing 2nd. A few days later he stated that this horse would be ideal for a veterans race, I was quick to make a note of that.
At the start of this season Charlie Longsdon said that the target for Pete The Feat this season would be this veterans final race. In combination with Richard Johnson's comments this horse is clearly one to watch out for in this.
Pete The Feat is a bold front runner who can set a decent tempo for a 13 year old, unfortunately he often gets swept aside by younger legs. With that in mind I also think that a veterans race is ideal for him, again fellow older horses he could be too quick for them.
One his best performances in recent times was when finishing 2nd in a handicap under Richard Johnson, that was over course and distance which gives me plenty of encouragement, he's clearly best suited to this track.
He's got in this race off bottom weight, carrying just 10-1 on his back, as a front runner he's extremely well weighted.
His last win was off a mark of 135 while he's placed off 133 & 130 in recent times, off a mark of 124 and carrying bottom weight he's very well treated here if retaining his form.
With the trainer having put this race forward as a target I have no doubt that he will be in peak form here, while I also suspect connections have purposely got him well handicapped for this, as it's probably his last chance to win a big one.
I'm surprised by the odds of 25/1, I had him down as a 16/1 shot as there's plenty in his favour. I'm tempted to go double stakes but given these veterans can lose interest I will stick to a £10 stake.
Bet365 are offering odds of 26.00. Each Way terms are 4 places at 1/4 odds.

Get in! A big thanks for Richard Johnson and Charlie Longsdon, they both mentioned this race for him, glad I took note.
