Wincanton Fortunate George

Wincanton - 07 Jan 15:15

"2 from 2 here at Wincanton, winning by 8 & 4 lengths. Jockey rides this track very well. Definitely overpriced."

  • This is a 21 furlong, Class 3, Handicap Hurdle. The forecast going is good to soft/soft in places.
Fortunate George is a 7 year old gelding, trained by Emma Lavelle, ridden by Daryl Jacob.
Some horses come to life or simply always find a bit more at certain courses and Fortunate George looks to be one of them.
He's 2 from 2 here at Wincanton, hacking up by 8 lengths in a bumper on debut and then winning by 4 lengths in a course and distance handicap hurdle.
Both times he's had to be asked to go and win the race, he certainly didn't tank along, I actually like this as it shows a willing attitude. Both times he responded very well for pressure and put the race to bed only when asked.
His final start last season saw him win a class 3 handicap hurdle over course and distance, almost an identical race to this.
He won that off a mark of 116 and is now on a mark of 123, given the fact he won by 4 lengths and clearly loves this track I don't think a 7lb higher mark can stop him if he's on form.
Fair enough both starts this season have been poor, however he needed his first run last season and this race was surely a target anyway given his record here.
I'm expecting this horse to leave this seasons form well behind here, both because he loves this track and was potentially aimed to peak for this.
Daryl Jacob takes the ride, he's got a 28% strike rate over hurdles here at Wincanton (21 from 76).
He was also on board when this horse won over course and distance last season.
I expect him to go close and also had him down as an 7/1 chance, at odds of 12/1 I'm going double stakes.
Paddy Power are offering odds of 13.00 with BOG.

Comments

Close to another big winner here, great effort from the front though, had all bar the eventual winner beaten a long way out.
