I’ve talked about this issue before when trying to find tipsters to follow. A lot of these big sites pay tipsters for content and to attract traffic (users to the website).
That’s ultimately all they are interested in. Whether that tipster makes us punters money is not of any interest to them. That’s evident in the way they operate.
I want to add this is no fault of the tipsters. They simply do their research and send in the tips, it’s then what happens with the tracking and odds that is the problem.
I’ll start with Steve Ryder as the prime example, sorry Steve, again nothing personal. He tips for oddschecker, every day in fact. Normally 3 horse racing tips from the daily card.
I’ve spoke to Steve on Twitter and he sends in his tips at 7:30am each morning. They then get added to the oddschecker site around 8:30am.
Steve is showing an excellent profit this year on the oddschecker app. Close to +90pts. It’s the reason I started following. I’ve now placed 211 bets with a return of -5.3pts and a -4.9% ROI. In that time his profit has gone up about 10pts on the app.
Today highlighted the problem. I was on the tips straight away, within minutes of them being posted. Two of Steve’s selections were posted at odds of 3/1. When I backed these horses, almost instantly, they weren’t 3/1, they were 11/4.
Will oddschecker settle these tips at 11/4? Of course not. They will settle them at 3/1. What’s even worse is that oddschecker have been using BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed). So if one of these selections won at an SP of 5/1, they’d then take the 5/1.
The problem with this is that nearly every bookmaker only offers BOG from 9am. Oddschecker post Steve’s selections at 8:30. As punters we can’t hang around 30 minutes and wait for the prices to drop further in the hope the SP might be higher.
Of all the sites that should be displaying the correct prices for their tips, it’s ODDSCHECKER.
It’s almost reaching the point where I won’t follow any tipsters sharing their tips on a third party site like this, simply because the profit/loss they are advertising isn’t correct.
I should say at this point, it may not apply to every website, but from my experience so far, with big websites like oddschecker and Betting Betfair, it is an issue.
