The Champions League kicked off on Tuesday, while the Europa League commenced two days later on Thursday, giving football fans across Europe some new hope for a better 20/21, as last season is best to be forgotten. While most football fans will recall last season’s Champions League final was won by Bayern Munich, some might have forgotten last Europa Cup was won by Sevilla against Italian side Internazionale.
This season will need to be more memorable with supporters hopefully entering the stadiums again some time in 2022. Apart from all the empty stadiums in the group stage, there was actually a lot of excitement in this week’s European football competitions as English teams managed to impress in both the Champions League and the Europa League.
English teams impress in both competitions
Chelsea kicked off the Champions League season for the English teams against last season’s Europa League winners Sevilla FC. Playing at home, the match ended the way it started: 0-0. Manchester United produced maybe the most impressive performance of the week by beating PSG with 1-2 and were tactically clever and bold against the Parisiens. Liverpool also did a heck of a job on Wednesday, beating Ajax 1-0 in Amsterdam, who were superior for most part of the game. On the same night Manchester City met the expectations of beating FC Porto at home in a match that saw The Citizens win with 3-1. The Portuguese team managed to open the score in the 14th minute, but with 3 goals of Aguero, Gundogan and Torres, City did what they were expected to do: win against a weaker opponent.
6 wins and 1 draw
In the Europa League Arsenal secured a 2-0 win visiting Austrian side Rapid Wien, while Tottenham started their European campaign on the right foot, winning 3-0 behind strong play from Brazilian defender Carlos Vinicius and the Welsh winger Gareth Bale. Leicester City was the last English side coming into action and started their Europa League season with a win as well: 3-0 against Zorja Loehansk. With 6 wins and 1 draw, we think it’s fair to say that the first week of the new European season has been pretty successful for football teams representing the Premier League. Although most results were rather predictable one would say.
Make it more exciting with football bets
Probably the hardest game in terms of football betting would’ve been Paris Saint-Germain – Manchester United. Most bookmakers considered the French side to be the favourites, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to have a tactical master brain when it comes to finding the right recipe to defeat Paris Saint-Germain. Just like on the 6th of March (1-3), Man U found their way to beat the Oil Money Club of PSG, securing an impressive away win. For those who were lucky enough to take into account recent historical away performances, this actually could’ve been the game to secure a big win. Thanks to new betting markets like Build a Bet it’s very easy to make a multiple bet and boost your winnings picking the games with attractive odds. Even with less attractive odds, bet builders give punters the opportunity to make big wins if 4 or more games are predicted correctly. Next week’s game with odds to keep an eye on? Probably Krasnodar – Chelsea!
