Sports stars have spare time just like everyone else. When they aren’t playing their chosen sport, there are some who love to head to a casino and spend some time playing poker.
It’s not a surprise that top sports stars love a game of poker. Michael Hazel from PokerStars says: “The poker table is not a new arena for athletes, as many have, over the years, sought other ways to satisfy their love for competition, and pursue challenges.”

He’s won well over half a million dollars, including a second-place finish that landed him a fantastic $391,000.
Cristiano Ronaldo
The Portuguese footballer has had an amazing football career, from his days at Manchester United to Real Madrid, is now looking likely to land the Serie A title with Juventus. He’s not just a genius on the pitch but the poker table too. So much that he has become a member of the PokerStars team. He famously won a poker match against ‘Breaking Bad’ star Aaron Paul. He’s been helpful for them as the company attempted to take their game to a new audience. Ronaldo is quoted as saying that he plays poker because of the “competition, strategy and fun and although football is my world, poker has always been my game.”
He’s not the only Ronaldo to enjoy success at football and poker. The Brazilian World Cup winning forward scored over 200 goals in his career. When he retired, Ronaldo became friends with Brazilian poker professional Andre Akkari. He did a pretty good job too. Like his Portuguese namesake, he is also joined Team PokerStars and won $42,180 in the 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure event.
