Is Kenny Pickett a 2022 Rookie of the Year winner in the making?

Even if you had been following the NCAAF pretty closely over the last few years, you probably wouldn’t have heard the name Kenny Pickett until this season. Pickett took advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic extending his eligibility for his college team and has really made a stamp on the game this year.

After being named the AAC’s Football player of the year, many are talking about Pickett being the QB1 pick in the 2022 Draft. What do you think?

Who is Kenny Pickett?

Kenny Pickett was born in Oakhurst, New Jersey 23 years ago. He is currently the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Panthers, he is a senior and is expected to be in the 2022 NFL draft.

Picket played as the quarterback for Ocean Township High School, his high school team. When he graduated from high school he was listed as the 23rd best high school quarterback in his state.

He had originally planned to go to college and play football for Temple University, but he ended up getting a better offer from the University of Pittsburgh.

College Performance

Pickett was the third reserve quarterback when he joined the Panthers. He didn’t start a game until the final match of the 2017 season, during which he put in a great performance.

Pickett started every game in the 2018 season. That year the Panthers won their ACC conference for the first time ever. They also made it to the Sun Bowl but lost by one point.

In 2019, Pickett doubled his passing yards. The team made it to their second bowl game with Pickett and won.

The 2020 season was cut short and the Panthers opted out of playing in the postseason.

Due to the number of games that were canceled in the 2020 season, the ACC decided to allow Fall athletes to play for an extra year if they wanted to. Pickett took this opportunity and we are all glad that he did.

This season he scored 40 touchdowns, made 7 interceptions, and passed for 4066 yards.

Pickett was named the ACC Player of the Year for 2021. We also know that Pickett is in consideration for many other awards and titles, we will just have to wait and see what else he wins.

NFL chances

Having been named the AAC Player of the Year in 2021, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Kenny Pickett is going to be an early pick in the 2022 Draft.

However, there are many other players who have had a more impressive overall college career. So, we will see if the NFL teams are more interested in experience and long term performances – or whether they will be choosing on current form.
