Of the most intriguing markets for football bettors is over under bets. It’s a market that is available on every sport, not just for the most popular (football, tennis, cricket etc.). Below we will see what are the under over bets, what alternative markets are there, how under-under bet statistics help, and what over under strategy you can follow to increase your chances of winning.
What is an over / under bet?
In a nutshell, you bet on how many goals will be scored in a football match. Or how many sets will a tennis match consist of. Speaking of football, if you bet on a match under 2.5 goals and it ends 1-1 then the bet is considered a win. If the match ends 2-1, then the bet is considered lost. The 2.5 you see in this case next to the under is the limit of the goals given by the betting site.
Along the way, other options have been added to most betting companies and have all been included in their game, in terms of goal betting, by changing the line up or down. Depending on the match, you will see other options apart from simple under or over 2.5, such as a choice of under 3.5 or over 3.5 goals.
With the increase in betting competition, betting sites now have all the under / over lines that start from 0.5 in football. It is important to know that in addition to a 90-minute bet, you can bet on over / under goals for each half separately, with the odds being adjusted accordingly.
Together with these bets came the bout in predictions for over under, but also in betting statistics, as most players, study over under data before they reach their final choice and pick anything that may seem useful to them.
Strategy Under Over
Because the confirmation chances of an over or under bet are 50% (as opposed to 33% in a match result), many punters avoid studying matches or championships, and in general place their bets based on intuition. This is a wrong strategy for betting on under over. If you want to earn money in sports betting then you have to study!
In a more aggressive championship, where goals are easily scored, you’re advised to pick a higher over goals line. On the other hand, in a division where goals are seldom scored, real value can be found by betting on the under 1.5 line.
For example, the Spanish Segunda Division is a championship where teams usually do not score many goals. If we bet on under 1.5 in Albacete – Mallorca, we win if the match ends without goals (0-0) or if a team of both succeed win by 1-0. In the event that two or more goals are scored, then the bet is considered lost. In championships like 2nd Spain the odds for under 2.5 will be quite small. So you have to look for a smaller line after you’ve read the under forecasts to get more performance.
On the other hand, in a match of the Eerste Divisie in the Netherlands, where statistically many goals are scored, it is worth looking for a higher goal line. If you pay attention to most games of this category, over 2.5 is offered at odds below 1.40. So in order to find value you have to raise the line to 3.5 goals or even higher.
Beyond that, however, not all teams perform the same. For example, in the Segunda Division some teams play more aggressively while on the other hand, in the second Dutch league, some of them tend to be more cautious. You can take a calculated risk by placing over bet in the 2nd Spain and an under bet in the 2nd Netherlands. Everything in sports betting is a matter of performance and obviously if you are looking to get some value by discovering the mistakes in the bookies prices.

Asian handicap Over Under
In recent years the Asian under / over lines have been added to the equation, along with several peculiarities. For example, when selecting an under 2 line, the bet is won if no match or goal is scored in a match. The bet is lost if three goals or more are scored. If exactly two goals are scored then the stake is returned. This is also the significant difference with respect to the “normal” over under mentioned above.
The same goes for the over 2 bet, where if exactly two goals are scored then the stake is returned to the player’s cashier. If more than three goals are scored, the bet will be considered a winner, and the player will lose if one or no goals are scored.
In the Asian Handicap options there is also over 1.25, over 2.25, over 3.25 and so on. Correspondingly there are also under 2.25, under 3.25, under 1.25 and so on.
What does this mean? If you bet, for example, in the match Atletico Madrid – Real Madrid over 2.25 and the match ends 1-1, then you get half your stake back. In order to be considered a winner, three goals and upwards need to be scored.
Finally, there are over 0.75, 1.75, 2.75 or 3.75 in the Asian handicap goal markets. In this market, if had placed an over 2.75 in the Atletico Madrid – Real Madrid clash and the match ends 2-1, you win half your stake and get a cashback of the rest. In the event of less than threegoals, the bet would be lost. Likewise under 2.75: If there are just three goals in the match, then you will lose half the bet you placed. You will receive the full profit if two or less goals are scored.
