I like my sleep. I’m not one to linger into the late hours, especially on a Sunday evening and in recent times I got out of the habit of following the PGA Tour. I’ve missed. Yesterday’s dramatic conclusion to the Fed Ex St.Jude Championship was as good as it gets. It was just pure entertainment.
Live sport brings with it so many unknowns. We saw everything in that playoff and I pity any golf traders who were trying to accurately predict the correct in-play odds during those last few holes. Whether it’s the unpredictability of sports betting or the excitement of gambling in kasyna z blikiem, the thrill is in not knowing what comes next.
If you didn’t see it I’ll try and elaborate. Will Zalatoris was still seeking his first PGA Tour win having gone close on so many occasions. The pressure was telling, he couldn’t hit a fairway.
He holed a clutch putt on the 72nd hole which earned him the playoff. On the 2nd playoff hole he was incredibly fortunate not to go out of bounds handing the initiative to Sepp Straka who blew it by finding the hazard down the left. Both players showed their steel by hitting decent approach shots and finding the bottom of the cup to save par and keep the contest alive.
Play switched to the short Par 3 11th surrounded by water. Just a pitching wedge for these elite ball strikers. Easy. Or not. Zalatoris landed on the rocks and some how the balls bounced multiple times before resting on the wall, but wedged up against the grass. Unplayable. It was in Straka’s hands, all he needed to do was find the middle of the green, with a short iron. He too hit the wall, but his ball bounced backwards into the water.
From the drop zone Straka found the back bunker, splashed out to around 4 feet and could only make double bogey at best. Whilst this was happening Zalatoris was seriously considering, or so it seemed, to attempt the impossible shot. It was madness. After what must have been 5 minutes of deliberation, he picked up his ball, went back to the drop zone and hit a great approach shot to around 6 feet. He then rolled in the putt and was crowned champion. I told you it was great entertainment.

Lucky for me I’d back Zalatoris, winning £240. That was what I was building up to all along. It’s made a huge difference to my betting spreadsheet. I’m still showing a negative return of -£72.18 but I’m in a much healthier position.
My goal is simple to break even. You might wonder what’s the point in betting them. My answer is written above. Because it’s fun, it’s entertaining, it makes my life more exciting and enjoyable. The highs of winning definitely outweigh the lows and by setting this realistic goal there is very little pressure on my gambling now. I used to get down when I wasn’t hitting a 10% ROI. Now I just don’t want to lose.
Let’s hope this week marks the start of an upturn in fortunes and I can land some more winners on the golf. Who knows, my more relaxed approach to gambling may prove profitable after all.
