Not all poker games are the same. Every game variation has different rules and has different expectations from players. For instance, Progressive Video Poker is a variant of video poker where the jackpot amount (Royal Flush win) is increased with each hand played. The player who gets Royal Flush by betting five coins wins the collective amount.
Jacks or Better, on the other hand, is the most popular game type in video poker. It is easy to understand and is a good starting point for beginners.
Before you get started playing poker in an online casino though, know the game variant you’re playing, and the rules. Today, we will talk about the 5 Card Draw Poker game and its tiebreaker rules. Before we get started though, we hope you’re already aware of the basics.
What are the Odds?
The percentage chance of an expected outcome is known as the odds. If a player guesses a particular outcome and the odd percentage of that outcome is high, it means there are high chances of that outcome.
Know what a Random Number Generator Is
is an algorithm used by video poker machines to deal cards to the player. The RNG ensures that the cards dealt are as random as possible so that players and casino owners cannot predict what the dealt cards will be.
5 Card Draw Poker Tiebreaker Rules You Need to Know
Two or more draw poker game players can have similar hands. Tiebreaker rules exist to determine the winner in case such a situation happens. Let us have a look at the poker games’ tie-breaker rules:
- If two or more players have Straights or Flushes( Straight flush and simple Flush), the card with the highest ranking determines the winner. For example, a player has 5,6,7,8, and 9, and another player has an Ace,2,3,4, and 5.
Both of them have a Straight hand, but the second player has an Ace, which is ranked higher than any card that the first player has. So, the second player wins.
- If two or more players have cards with higher ranks, then each of those cards’ rankings is compared from top to bottom. As soon as a card with a higher ranking comes, the hand to which that card belongs wins the pot. For example, a Jack, 8, 6, 4, and 2 beats a King, 7, 5,3, and 2 at the second card.
- If two or more players have a pair, you follow the same rule stated previously.
- In three kind tie, the player who has the higher ranked trips wins. For example, 8,8,8,4 and 2 beats 2,2,2,5 and 8.
- In case of a Full House tie, the hand that has got the higher trips wins. For example, 8,8,8, 2, and 2 beat 7,7,7, 5, and 5.
- In the case of a Two Pair tiebreaker, the kicker card’s rank determines the winner. The hand that has got the higher-ranked kicker card wins.
- In a Four-of-a-Kind tie, the hand with the higher-ranked quads wins—for example, 7,7,7,7 and 4 wins against 5,5,5,5 and 7.
- If two players have Royal Flush, then it is a tie, and the chips in the pot are equally divided between them. This tiebreaker is also followed if two or more players have the same five-card.
