Both teams to score is an incredibly popular way to bet on football matches. This market gives punters the chance to seek out potentially high-scoring games without having to correctly predict the outcome. Although many online bookmakers tend to price these markets fairly conservatively, football fans regularly enjoy placing them into multiples, and despite the prohibitive odds, the potential returns soon begin to add up. Defensively susceptible teams, or sides who have a “we’ll outscore the opponent” mentality are ideal for these types of bet, although finding these outfits can often be a time-consuming process. We have picked out three leagues which routinely produce end-to-end contests, and appear to be the perfect starting point for goal-hungry punters.
Belgian Jupiler Pro League
The Belgian top flight has fairly limited coverage in the UK. However, it is a division which consistently delivers on entertainment value. During the 2019-2020 campaign, 55% of matches ended with the both teams finding the back of the net, whilst seven of the nine opening day fixtures this time around also produced BTTS.
There are a number of familiar names plying their trade in the Jupiler League with Simon Mignolet keeping the highest number of clean sheets in the division last season. English football fans will also remember Saido Berahino, who plundered six goals in first 18 games for mid-table Zulte Waregem last season. Despite the division’s high-scoring reputation, the West Flanders-based side were an exception to the rule last year with BTTS landing in just 38% of their matches.
In contrast, the Burundi-born striker’s former employers West Brom registered a 65% strike rate in games at the Hawthorns. The Baggies were promoted back to the top flight and despite having plenty of firepower in their ranks, they are 11/10 in the latest Premier League betting to be relegated back to the Championship at the first time of asking.
Austria Erste Liga
When it comes to goals, Austria’s second tier has consistently delivered for a number of seasons, and the 2019-20 campaign lived up to its billing with 161 of the 240 matches ending with both sides getting onto the score-sheet. Clean sheets are a rarity in this division with SV Horn, who somehow escaped relegation, keeping just a single shutout in their first 30 matches. Even third-placed Liefering managed to keep the opposition at arm’s length in just 17% of their fixtures last year.
Although there is very little coverage of this division in mainstream outlets, this entertaining league does hold the majority of its games on a Friday evening which gives punters the perfect opportunity to get a head start on their weekend accumulator.
Australian A-League
The Australian top flight has been delighting early risers for a number of seasons with its fairly lackadaisical attitude to defending. Adam Le Fondre is a player who has certainly capitalised on this, with the former Bolton man on course to secure this season’s Golden Boot. He isn’t the only former EFL player who is thriving down under, with former Cardiff winger Craig Noone having registered a league-leading eight assists so far.
63% of matches saw BTTS pay out this season, with the ever-reliable Adelaide United having seen goals go in at both ends in 77% of their games. Western Sydney Wanderers, Melbourne City FC and Wellington Phoenix aren’t far behind with over two thirds of their matches producing the same outcome.
Although punters are extremely unlikely to benefit from focusing on individual matches in these absorbing divisions, the Jupiler League, Erste Liga and A-League should be the cornerstone of any weekend both teams to score accumulator, and this trio of high-scoring leagues look likely to continue delivering on a weekly basis.
