As we head into spring, sports fans all over the world can get excited about some of the best annual events on the calendar.
The better weather brings out some fantastic outdoor action, while not forgetting the indoor events such as the world snooker championship in Sheffield at the Crucible, where the best fight it out for the title after 17 days of action.
After looking through a wide range of markets, here are the some of the most interesting bets for spring.
Anthony Joshua to beat David Haye – 2/5
Britain’s Anthony Joshua beat IBF champion Charles Martin at the O2 Arena in London to become a world champion after just 16 professional fights. That now steps up a huge domestic fight with former world champion David Haye later this year.
Joshua is the future of British boxing and he should be able to get past Haye, who is now 35 years old and past his best.
US Ranger Army to win the Derby – 9/2
Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien has won the Derby on five different occasions and he could bring that number up to six this year. US Army Ranger put himself in the picture for the Classic at Epsom following his victory at the Curragh where he broke his maiden in good style at the first attempt. The son of Galileo is a well-bred animal who is likely to appreciate the step up to the Derby trip of 1m4f.
Since his success at the Curragh, the three-year-old has been well backed for Epsom which could be his next assignment as he looks unlikely to run in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. A look at Oddschecker shows he is a top price of 9/2 with some bookmakers at the time of writing for the third Classic of the year.
Jason Day to win the US Open – 10/1
Jason Day went into the US Masters as the hottest golfer on the planet, however, he was unable to win the Green Jacket for the first time in his career. In the past 12 months, Day has won six times on the PGA Tour, including the recent Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he came out on top by a stroke in Florida, and the WGC-Dell Match Play tournament in Texas.
Despite the blip at Augusta, he could be set for major success in 2016. He is a top price of 10/1 to score at the Oakmont Country Club.
Ronnie O’Sullivan to win the world snooker championship – 2/1
When Ronnie O’Sullivan is close to his best in snooker, nobody else in the sport can live with him. The Rocket proved that at the Masters at the Alexandra Palace earlier this year and then in the Welsh Open when he blew away Neil Robertson in the final.
O’Sullivan is bidding for his sixth world title this year which would leave him just one behind Stephen Hendry. He still has time on his hands to break the Scotsman’s record as long as he is able to maintain his hunger for the game.
