Whilst it’s scandalous the way bookmakers treat punters these days I think we’ve had to come to accept it is what it is. At the moment there is little we can do as punters about being limited.
I can’t get a bet on with the following bookmakers: Ladbrokes, Coral, 888Sport, Betfred, 10bet and Betway. I’m limited to pennies with Betfair, Paddy Power and William Hill.
The fact I’ve still been able to make a 7%+ ROI is pretty good really given my limitations. But how can we avoid the bookmakers simply closing our accounts?
Limit Your Stakes
If you’ve had big dreams of quitting your job and becoming a professional punter simply by betting large amounts following the best tipsters, think again. It’s not going to happen.
Any punter placing large bets is quickly going to catch the attention of the bookmakers. I recently worked at a bookie, albeit only 3 days, but one thing I noticed was a huge print out listing the performance of every single customer (over 2,500).
There was no way they could keep track of them all. The bookmakers were firstly interested in those customers who were losing the most. These punters were well known and it’s a case of keeping them happy, sometimes even offering better odds.
Then it was a case of going through the punters who were not good for business. Checking up on how much they had won or how little they had lost. To be honest there weren’t that many, which highlights how quickly you could be spotted if you’re winning money.
But this was a small bookie. For the larger ones raking in the cash there going to focus on those betting big stakes. £100 and up. Especially if you’re betting on obscure markets.
Don’t Just Follow the best Tipsters
Bookmakers know who the best tipsters are. Ben Coley for instance. If you only followed Ben Coley’s golf tips then the bookmakers would quickly have a red flag against your name.
It’s too easy for them. Coley puts up a tip and the bets come flying in. The bookmakers probably then take a look at which punters are betting the most and take a closer look at the accounts.
I’m not saying don’t follow tipsters like Coley, but just make sure you place others bets too, so it’s not too obvious.
Mug Bets
Occasionally it might be a wise idea to place the odd mug bet. An accumulator for instance. These are the type of bets the bookmakers love and it might send them a message that you could in fact become a losing punter.
Casino
The bookmakers love their casino products as they hold the edge. Stick a tenner or so in your casino account, perhaps play the odd spin of the roulette will to minimize any losses. Having a few quid sitting in your Casino account might just help your cause.
Oddschecker
Never use the links from oddschecker to go through to the bookmaker bet slip. Rumour has it, and it’s only a rumour, that these links are tracked to alert bookmakers of shrewd punters.
Oddschecker is a great site but bookmakers don’t want customers who only bet with them when they are offering the top price.
If you use the direct links, and the rumour is true, they’ll know straight away to keep a closer eye on your betting account.
