A nation of sport and beloved fans, the USA has a multitude of weird and wonderful sporting events dotted throughout the calendar year. From the ‘big four’ leagues to college level, there is always something for everyone on our screens. But there are some of these events which are just in a league above the rest. We are going to have a look at the greatest US sporting events.
Superbowl:
By far the biggest, best and most illustrious one-game championship in the world, nevermind the US, is the Superbowl. The championship game to end the NFL season has seen some seriously monumental sporting moments over the years. In addition to this, it has recently become commercialised to become even more of an entertainment show beyond the actual American football being played. With the two teams battling it out on the field for the Vince Lombardi Cup, fans flock to the host city weeks in advance to party and millions of viewers from around the world tune in to see not only the teams compete with each other, but to spectate the famous halftime show and also check the NFL odds in order to place a bet on the action. One of the most viewed TV shows ever this is beyond a sporting event at this stage, it is a stalwart of American culture.
Kentucky Derby:
Known around the world this is arguably the biggest horse race on the globe. A pivotal ⅓ of the Triple Crown this race draws in crowds from around the world and the US to the Louisville racetrack. Run since 1875, the race is known as ‘the fastest two minutes in sport’ and continues to delight fans to this day. Whilst fun to watch on tv, and perhaps stick a cheeky little sports betting gamble on the winner, the real joy from this event is managing to attend it in real life. If you are lucky enough to get tickets you are going to be blown away by the atmosphere of this special event.
MLB All Stars Game:
Marking centuries of America’s favourite pastime, the MLB World Series is the pinnacle of baseball year. Known historically for tales of triumph and glory, this sporting event has been making waves for generations. Marking the sport with home runs, chilly evenings and extraordinary bowls, this series is one for the long-haul but brings in punters from across America and the world to revel in the spectacle. The Fall Classic (end of series) is so marked in its place as a great sporting event that it is culturally ingrained in many Americans. To get here the 32 teams from across the leagues have to endure a 162 game season then beat 3 playoffs. Running from April to October it dominates the American punters for months throughout the Summertime.
NCAA Top Fours:
It wasn’t until the 1970s and 80s that this event really took off – thanks particularly to Magic Johnson and larry Bird, but since then it has been an explosion of legendary sport. Paving the way for some of basketball’s finest sportsmen including a certain Michael Jordan. Despite only being college basketballs these finals are exhilarating, draw huge crowds and have a very special tale surrounding them.
