It’s only just a handful of months until the League of Legends World Championship Finals take place. The esports showdown will take place in Paris at the recently renovated AccorHotels Arena, and it’s widely expected to be one of the biggest competitive gaming events of all-time.
In 2018 we saw Invictus Gaming emerge triumphant in the LoL Worlds contest in Incheon, South Korea. Despite tough challenges from the likes of Fnatic, G2 Esports and Cloud9, the team managed to become the first Chinese esports organisation to win this epic gaming tournament.
It’s events like this that set esports on a path to being accepted alongside traditional sports. The 2018 League of Legends World Championship Finals were reportedly watched by nearly 100 million viewers, and so it’s going to be fascinating to see what happens in Paris later this year.
But who stands the best chance of being declared the champion of the 2019 LoL Worlds tournament? Here is a quick overview of which esports teams seem to be getting the bookmakers most excited.
Invictus Gaming
This Chinese esports team seemed to come from nowhere to win last year’s LoL Worlds tournament. If you take a look at the odds featured at www.lolbettingsites.com, you will see how many bookmakers seem to think that Invictus Gaming could be in with a strong chance of repeating this incredible triumph.
But was Invictus Gaming’s victory just a flash in the pan? Anybody who saw their 3-0 demolition of Fnatic in the 2018 World Championships will know that there is plenty of strength in this Chinese team. But with the recent news that FunPlus Phoenix had just beaten Invictus Gaming to top the LPL, it seems that things might not be going according to plan. Despite this, we think that this Chinese gaming team should make an appearance in the LoL Worlds finals.
Fnatic
Everybody knows that this European esports team have a great playing record in the LoL Worlds competition. From their championship win in the tournament’s inaugural year in 2011, to their recent final appearance last year, Fnatic always represent good value for money with your esports bets.
However, Fnatic suffered a terrible start to their 2019 campaign and for a long time it looked like this esports team might not even make the LEC playoffs. Despite this, we think that there is enough strength in depth in the Fnatic LoL squad to be a real challenge to just about any gaming side.
G2 Esports
It’s strange to think that G2 Esports have never won LoL Worlds. Whilst they looked good for a period last year, they just couldn’t seem to maintain consistent form to get the job done. But anybody who saw G2 Esports win the 2017 Summer EU LCS will know that this side can deliver the results when it counts.
The European team recently added Promisq to their roster and it’s going to be interesting to see how this hugely talented player can boost their overall team strength. But G2 Esports recently came unstuck in their recent encounter with Fnatic, so there are still many questions that need answering before we see the team picking up the LoL Worlds title.
Cloud9
Finally, you can’t take about LoL Worlds without mentioning Cloud9. This North American team were a real force to be reckoned with last year, and they will be desperate to pick up their first championship title. And with two wins in their last week in the 2019 LCS Spring Split, it seems that Cloud9 could deliver plenty of surprises in the upcoming LoL World tournament.
