Oh dear! It’s not started well. I have this tendency in life to get carried away with things far too quickly, my latest attempt at being a decent punter is the latest scheme to fall to that flaw.
The biggest lesson I can offer from my naive approach is don’t get too carried away too early. I placed a dozen bets on the golf this week, many of them 40/1 or shorter. I was convinced at least one of them would reward me with a each way payout. I was mistaken.
Southgate and Shinkwin were well placed after 36 holes at Hillside only to play like twats on Saturday. Brice Garnett my Top 20 pick looked a banker until he started Sunday’s final round with 3 bogeys on the spin. Cheers Brice mate!
All I needed was one of my bigger priced outright tips to land and all would have been ok. 50/1 bet Alex Molcan made it to the semi finals in Hamburg and pushed Alcaraz to a tie break in the 1st set. It wasn’t to be.
FOR THE THIRD TIME 🏆🏆🏆
Michael van Gerwen is the 2022 @Betfred World Matchplay Champion for the third time in his career!
He beats Gerwyn Price 18-14 in an epic final at the Winter Gardens!
Simply incredible finishing and power scoring 👏#WMDarts pic.twitter.com/wCz9HcucgK

Gerwyn Price who I backed at 15/2 to win the World Matchplay had a 4 leg lead in the final but was blown away by an excellent MVG to leave me feeling gloomy again.
The unluckiest bet was Van Gerwen to hit the Most 180s against Dmitri Van Den Bergh in their semi final at 11/4. MVG led 9-6 only for Van Den Bergh to hit 3 180s in the last 3 legs, including his last scoring visit to the board. To make matters worse MVG produced a scoring blitz in the final.
My betting stats make for ugly reading so far. -£215.36 and a ROI of -31.86%. That is shit! The key is not to panic, don’t chase those losses, don’t go on tilt. This diary isn’t about making a lot of money betting, it’s about having fun with my bets and trying to ensure I at least come out break even. So far that doesn’t look at clear cut as I first thought.
