I’m such a dick. Despite having over 20 years of betting experience and classing myself as a shrewd punter I’ve made the biggest mistake any punter can make.

This “Best Bets” feature was always about being selective and placing one bet a day. But I got greedy. I went on a really good run and made quite a decent amount of profit in a short space of time. I wanted more. So I started betting more. As many as 4 bets a day and at bigger odds.

The results have been inevitable. The winners have dried up and I’ve lost quite a bit of my profit. It currently stands at +8pts with a ROI of 14.33%. I’m just glad I have the experience and insight now to quickly change my approach. The worst thing you can do in this situation is start chasing.

So I’m going back to the approach that worked from the off. 1 bet a day. Granted at times I will have to pass on excellent value bets, but if the bet I place offers even more value then how I can lose in the long run?

I’m confident this approach will work and keep me excited about my own gambling again. Today is a good day to start as well given we don’t have any Euro 2024 matches to bet on. I’m glad too as I’ve always been useless at betting on football.

So I’ve opted for the T20 World Cup cricket semi final between India v England. If you asked me to nominate one cricket tipster to follow, I would go with Ed Hawkins. So it’s Ed’s advice that I am following today and backing Virat Kohli to be top India batsman.

On form this looks a silly bet but it was the price which really tempted me in. The average price across the oddschecker grid is 3.6. Dee is kindly offering 4.33.

I also have a £10 free bet to spend having taking advantage of the Bet Builder offer yesterday, so at least when this bet loses (confidence is low right now) I won’t have lost anymore of my own hard earned money.
